Hood Vents

I have heard back from several NA and NB owners that have installed their hood vents using the above air pressure mapping. In short in all cases they have seen significantly better air flow through the radiator and or oil cooler. Another benefit seems to be lower air pressure under the hood which has stopped hood flex at high speed.

I personnally have installed the vents in a friends NA (turbo). We did not cut the under hood cross bracing, rather just the outer hood skin was removed. He was having heat soak problems after a few hot laps on track. He is now running a full session (30 minutes or so) with no heat issues and the only change was the vents!

The next build is well under way. I have started to document it here:

The new build is simply a leverage of all lessons learned and is a light weight race setup. Should be fun. Hope you enjoy.

Correction - Re Diff mounting

Postby perryracing » Thu Jul 22, 2010 12:22 am

All

Since this build I have found one major item I need to correct. Specifically the rear upper diff mounts. The rear CTS diff mounts are attached to the V8R diff mount bar. The ends of the v8R diff mount bar then attached to the Miata OE rear diff upper mount locations. All good so far.

What I did NOT do was to use the OE Miata rear diff mount plates. The V8R diff bar mount should be located via 3 studs per side vs. the one I used. So the V8R rear diff bar mounts slides over the OE 17mm studs. Then the OE diff mount plates are installed and then the 17mm OE nut. The OE diff plate then has 2 additional 10mm stud holes to align to the two 10mm studs on the Miata unibody. This then provides 3 studs per side to hold the rear upper V8R diff mount in place.
